Therapy Services and More

I am accepting new clients and am offering phone and video sessions.

I have immediate openings for teletherapy (video or phone sessions)
and would be honored to support you in your healing and growth.
Start with a free phone consultation.

I have worked in a variety of settings and have had the opportunity to provide individual, child and family therapy to assist children to learn coping skills and parents to read children’s cues to better address their needs in a loving and positive manner. I have helped adults with depression, trauma, anxiety, grief and loss as well as assisted couples in learning to better communicate, rekindle their friendship and love, then ultimately build stronger and more connected healthy relationships.

Additionally, I take Medicare and have experience assisting our older population with depression, anxiety and life’s challenges and changes, including managing COVID-19 and how our new world presents.

Currently I provide teletherapy through an online HIPAA compliant site. Teletherapy provides privacy, convenience and flexibility and I have more times available outside my regular office hours if needed.

Individual Therapy

Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy can provide you with effective coping skills that will allow you to function on a happier level. I can help you navigate through the stress of daily life and teach you effective ways to replace those negative thoughts with positive ones. I use strengths-based approach with compassion and sometimes humor.

Therapy can be a rewarding and a valuable experience. It can help to overcome challenges and barriers in life you might not be able to face on our own.

Seeking therapy is still something many people find difficult for several reasons. Whether it’s the lingering social stigma of needing support with mental health or simply finding the time and capacity to sit down with a therapist. Therefore, I also offer teletherapy through online and secure site. It is confidential, accessible and convenient to your time.

EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing
The mind can often heal itself naturally, in the same way as the body heals. Much of the natural coping mechanism occurs during sleep, particularly during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Francine Shapiro develop Eye Movement Desensitization (EMD) in 1987. She found that using this natural process to treat PTSD Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. Shapiro later renamed it EMDR therapy and it has been used effectively to treat a wide range of mental health problems including: trauma, anxiety, addiction, pain and more.

Does EMDR Therapy Actually Work?
According to the EMDR Institute, Inc., some of the studies on this type of therapy show that 84%-90% of single-trauma victims no longer have post-traumatic stress disorder after only three 90-minute sessions. Another study, funded by the HMO Kaiser Permanente, found that 100% of the single-trauma victims and 77% of multiple trauma victims no longer were diagnosed with PTSD after only six 50-minute sessions. In another study, 77% of combat veterans were free of PTSD in 12 sessions.

CBT
Cognitive Behavior Therapy

In my practice, I use CBT, which is is a short-term, goal-oriented psychotherapy treatment that takes a hands-on, practical approach to problem-solving. Its goal is to change patterns of negative thinking or behavior that are behind people's difficulties, and so change the way they feel thus behave.

Expressive Arts Therapy
Expressive Arts Therapy is a discipline of helping and healing that uses the arts as its foundation for self-discovery and transformation. All five disciplines of the arts: visual, dance/movement, music, drama/theater, and writing/poetry can give you a richer vocabulary to work, play and grow a life you love living.

I specifically use painting, drawing, collage, clay and other such media to help in this process. You do not need to be an artist to do Expressive Arts Therapy. The processes are simple and no previous art background is needed. This therapeutic approach will help open the senses and access your imagination so you can find our own resources that you hold within yourself.
Expressive Arts Therapy is especially effective with preteens and adolescents.

Trauma Treatment
In doing therapeutic trauma therapy, I strive to build a trusting and empathetic therapeutic relationship which enables positive expectancy for healing and hope.  I help you learn to develop relaxation and self-regulation skills that facilitate looking at pain and even trauma with positive effects. Rather than opening up the “wound of trauma” and leaving you vulnerable, this approach is a more gentile means to move through to the healing process.

Couples Therapy

Most couples wait too long before seeking help. Honestly, if you seek help sooner rather than later, you will be a able to learn to communicate in a positive manner, reestablish your friendship then grow  and heal together as a couple.

Using the Gottman Method of couples therapy, an approach that not only supports and repairs troubled marriages and committed relationships, but strengthens happy ones. The research shows that to make a relationship last, couples must become better friends, learn to manage conflict, and create ways to support each other’s hopes for the future.

Child and Family Therapy

Play therapy is a form of child therapy which is used to help facilitate a child to process possible repressed feelings, memories and deeper unresolved trauma. Children naturally communicate, learn and heal through play, therefore it is as an effective and developmentally appropriate therapeutic treatment.

For children who have experienced foster care or have ultimately been adopted have experienced loss, in utero and external abuse and trauma. There are often attachment issues that can play out through life if left untreated. I utilize the TheraPlay modality to address attachment issues.

EMDR for Children
EMDR can be effective for children as well as adults. EMDR has been used to help children deal with traumatic events, depression, anxiety, phobias, and a variety of other behavioral problems. Instead of eye movement, children access the bilateral healing through “buzzies” which give the child a soft tapping as they hold the paddles in thier hands, their pockets or socks as they choose. It is safe and effective.
